Based on the theoretical frameworks of children's literature, as well as its translation, in the present work, two different translations from Spanish to Croatian of one chapter from the book Manolito Gafotas (1994) were analyzed. It is a children’s literature book written by Spanish author Elvira Lindo, which has not been translated to Croatian yet. The first translation has been elaborated faithfully following the original text, while the second one has localized all the cultural elements present in the novel. The analysis has focused on two approaches: foreignization (faithful to the original) and domestication (oriented towards the Croatian child audience) furthermore comparing translational decisions regarding names, toponyms, food, phraseology, and colloquial language. Although both approaches face challenges, it is suggested that localized translation to Croatian balances fidelity to the author, the text, and the child reader. In conclusion, the need to balance fidelity in the translation of children's and young adult literature is highlighted, recognizing the difficulty of replicating all the original elements.Reference
