In the article we examine the presence of Spanish-American literature and its authors in the Slovenian cultural sphere in the 1960s of the 20th century. We first present the role of Yugoslavia in the historical, political and social framework of that period –Cold War, Tito, the Non-Aligned Movement– and, more specifically, its political and cultural relations with the countries of the American continent. We then explore the reception of Spanish-American literary works in Slovenia with special attention to two authors, Miguel Ángel Asturias and Pablo Neruda. The reception of the two authors in the Slovenian literary sphere could not have been more divergent, but on the other hand, they are linked by the fact of having coincided in our country at the 33rd International PEN Congress (Asturias as a candidate for the presidency) that took place in 1965, both events marked by obvious political implications.Reference
